Air Coupled Ultrasonic Testing

Air Coupled Ultrasonic Testing (ACUT) avoids the disadvantages of conventional investigation technique, where water is typically used as a coupling medium. Water can penetrate the specimen and cause damages. In addition, it can cause problems like limescale, algae growth and corrosion on the scan mechanics.
On components with high sound attenuation, such as sandwich components with honeycomb core or foam core, which can only be penetrated by low frequencies, air-coupled ultrasonic testing even provides better results than a water-coupled investigation technique.
